Club SciKidz Treasure Coast & Palm Beaches was established in 1997, and since 1997 more than 100,000 children have attended one or more of its science day camps or school programs. The program now offers 42 different themed science camps and 30 weeks of inquiry-based after-school science club experiences, with science programs that introduce elementary school students to science through hands-on and interactive make-and-take projects and experiments. Unique science programs are designed to meet the needs of children ages 4–14, with carefully researched lessons that engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts, and each unit is researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children.
Lessons are based on Florida and National Science Education Standards, and often include language arts, history, and mathematical concepts. The STEM curriculum is described as exciting and interactive, featuring hands-on experiments and projects, and activities emphasize a child's natural curiosity and make learning fun. Summer camps offer more STEM variety with three activities per day, and extended day programs are available for working parents. Drop off and pick-up check-in is handled via the Club SciKidz App, which allows parents to control who picks up their child, and the program states that it is fun, safe, and scientific.
Club SciKidz, including Club SciKidz Treasure Coast & Palm Beaches, was founded on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life impacting academic enrichment experiences, and the company is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world through activities in areas such as veterinary medicine, robotics, forensics, video game creation, food science, paleontology, engineering, chemistry and biology, astronomy, oceanography, emergency medicine, and special effects. Club SciKidz Treasure Coast is officially accredited by STEM.org.
Owners Bob and Sue Hagan, along with Treasure Coast franchise owners Lynn and Anthony Mancini, all hold master’s degrees in education, and Bob and Sue have a combined 30-plus years of teaching experience. The program looks for certified teachers, college students, and outstanding high school seniors to work in its summer camps in Port St. Lucie, Stuart, Jupiter, Vero Beach, and West Palm Beach.
Parent comments about Club SciKidz include statements that the staff are kind and caring, that children came home happy and well entertained, and that teenagers and young adults who facilitated activities were described as great. Other parents reported that their children loved the variety of activities, fun experiments, and interaction with other kids and counselors, and one family stated that out of five different camps their children attended, this was their favorite. Additional feedback mentioned a safe environment, fun activities, great hours, unique activities, organized and well-run programs, and thoughtful and caring teachers and directors.
